ABB launches digital platform to help water utilities reduce pipeline losses

Smart water network management
  • ABB has launched AquaMaster+, a digital platform for smart water network management.
  • The platform helps utilities monitor networks, detect anomalies and reduce pipeline losses.
  • Features include GIS mapping, remote device management and cloud-based analytics.
  • Virtual flowmeters allow operators to model network performance before making operational changes.
  • AquaMaster+ can be deployed with AquaMaster4 flowmeters or integrated into existing systems.

Water utilities are under increasing pressure to reduce water losses and improve operational efficiency.

To support those efforts, ABB has launched AquaMaster+, a digital platform that combines flow measurement, cloud analytics and remote device management.

The platform helps utilities monitor water distribution networks, identify anomalies and optimise day-to-day operations.

AquaMaster+ can be used with ABB’s AquaMaster4 electromagnetic flowmeters or integrated into existing monitoring systems as a standalone software solution.

Helping utilities tackle non-revenue water

Reducing non-revenue water remains one of the biggest challenges facing water utilities worldwide.

Ageing infrastructure, leakage and operational inefficiencies continue to place increasing pressure on water resources.

AquaMaster+ combines fleet-level monitoring, GIS mapping, real-time analytics and device diagnostics to give operators greater visibility across their networks.

The platform also highlights changes in flow and pressure, helping utilities investigate leaks and other network anomalies much earlier.

“With pressure mounting on water resources globally, a great deal of work is done to prevent losses in the distribution system and to help save water through more efficient resource management.”

ABB says these insights can help utilities make better operational decisions while improving resource management.

Real-time monitoring improves operations

The platform provides both fleet-level and individual device insights through a cloud-based dashboard.

Operators can remotely configure devices, review diagnostics and monitor performance without visiting field assets.

This reduces travel time while enabling faster responses when operational issues occur.

Real-time event logging also allows utilities to compare flow rates, pressure changes and other operating parameters to identify abnormal network behaviour.

Digital tools support better decision making

AquaMaster+ includes virtual flowmeter functionality that allows utilities to model different network scenarios.

Operators can compare predicted performance against real operating conditions before implementing changes.

The platform has also been designed with an intuitive interface that reduces training requirements and provides faster access to operational data.

Building smarter water networks

ABB’s AquaMaster flowmeters have been used across the water industry for more than 50 years.

The new platform builds on that experience by combining proven field instrumentation with cloud analytics and remote monitoring.

As water utilities continue investing in digital transformation, integrated platforms such as AquaMaster+ are expected to play an increasingly important role in improving network resilience and reducing water losses.
