The PX U Series is an energy recovery device designed for ultra high-pressure reverse osmosis (UHPRO) applications, helping make zero liquid discharge (ZLD) and minimal liquid discharge (MLD) more affordable and energy-efficient in wastewater treatment and reuse. As part of Energy Recovery’s PX® Pressure Exchanger® portfolio, the PX U Series increases the efficiency of UHPRO so that implementing minimal and zero liquid discharge becomes less costly while reducing harmful discharge into the surrounding environment. Tailored for UHPRO applications, it can handle higher brine concentrations and supports a circular water economy by helping recover valuable resources from wastewater.

Built with a corrosion-resistant high-purity alumina ceramic core and a single moving part, the PX U Series withstands erosion and corrosion from aggressive concentrates while minimizing mechanical wear, even in ultra high-pressure service. By returning pressure energy directly from the concentrate stream to the incoming feed, it reduces high-pressure pump load and overall power demand, recovering up to 65% of otherwise wasted energy across all flow conditions. Its compact, modular, and scalable design integrates into new or retrofit UHPRO systems with minimal layout changes, lowering CAPEX and supporting efficient operation across wide pressure and flow ranges.

The PX U Series operates at pressures up to 120 bar (1,740 psi) and achieves up to 97% peak efficiency.
