Wave strengthens UK water technology offering with acquisition of Infersens

Wave acquisition Infersens

Wave has acquired the assets, intellectual property and patents of Infersens, a Cambridge-based developer of water-sensing technology. The move forms part of Wave’s strategy to advance smart water management for non-household customers across the UK.

The acquisition follows a two-year collaboration between the organisations, supported through the Market Improvement Fund. The project has seen the deployment of 1,000 remote flow and temperature sensors at a range of non-household locations. The trials are evaluating how real-time monitoring can reduce water use and support compliance with Legionella risk management requirements.

Infersens’ Cortense® system, a non-invasive wireless sensor that captures continuous flow and temperature data, will now be integrated into Wave’s wider service offering. Early results from the trial have indicated that the technology can help reduce unnecessary flushing and reduce manual temperature checks, which account for an estimated 8% of non-household water consumption in the UK.

The sensors are currently in use across universities, hotels, government sites and commercial buildings, providing organisations with data insights to support water efficiency and asset management.

Wave will continue to support existing Infersens customers and plans to expand the rollout of the Cortense® system through its commercial and public sector partnerships.

Lucy Darch, Chief Executive Officer at Wave, said:

“Infersens has developed technology with strong potential to support water efficiency and water safety. Integrating its systems into our wider services will help us build on the progress made through our collaborative trials.”

Wave recently received industry recognition for its operational performance and ongoing work in supporting customers with water efficiency. The company has set a target to help deliver 19 million m³ of water savings by 2030.
