Veolia has announced a new generation of ultrafiltration membranes made without PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride). The company said the non-PVDF ultrafiltration membrane range is intended to address evolving regulatory requirements, particularly in Europe, while maintaining the performance standards of its existing technology.

The Paris-listed environmental services group, which reported consolidated revenue of €44.4 billion in 2025 and employs 215,000 people across five continents, will produce the new membranes at its facility in Oroszlany, Hungary.

A non-PVDF ultrafiltration membrane alongside existing products

Cities and industries use Veolia’s ultrafiltration membranes in drinking water, wastewater and water reuse applications. The company said its membranes have been on the market for more than 30 years. It also said they have set the global standard for efficiency, reliability and lifespan.

The new range will sit alongside current products rather than replace them. Veolia said it will continue to offer its existing membranes, including PVDF-based solutions. It said the non-PVDF generation gives customers more options to meet the regulatory requirements that apply where they operate.

Response to changing regulatory requirements

PVDF is a fluoropolymer widely used in membrane manufacture. Veolia has not said which specific regulations the new membranes are designed to address. It said only that requirements are evolving, particularly in Europe.

The company said the move reflects its commitment to technological development and its ability to adapt to regulatory and market requirements. It linked the work to its GreenUp strategic programme.

Anne Le Guennec, chief executive of Veolia’s water technology activities, said: “By expanding our membrane technology portfolio, we’re enabling customers to navigate evolving regulatory landscapes without compromising on performance. This is what it means to lead: anticipating change and providing solutions before they’re required. And that commitment to performance and responsibility is what defines Veolia’s DNA and innovation strategy.”

Manufacturing in Hungary

The non-PVDF ultrafiltration membrane products will be manufactured at Veolia’s plant in Oroszlany. The company said they will be made available as regulatory requirements and market conditions warrant. It has not given a launch date or production volumes.

Production in Hungary will add to Veolia’s existing membrane manufacturing in North America, Asia and Europe. The company said this footprint allows it to serve customers with tailored solutions wherever they operate.

Part of a wider water technology business

Water technologies are one part of the Veolia group, which also works in waste, including hazardous waste management, and local energy. According to the company, it served 110 million people with drinking water and 97 million with sanitation in 2025.

H2O Global News has previously reported on Veolia’s new water treatment technologies unveiled at IFAT 2026.
