  • MentorAPM reports up to 10× faster data collection and more than 75% cost savings, although these are vendor-reported figures.
  • FLIR and MentorAPM will present the integration at the SMRP Annual Conference from 28 September to 1 October 2026.

FLIR and MentorAPM have launched a thermal asset monitoring integration for FLIR iXX-Series cameras, allowing maintenance teams, including water and wastewater utilities, to capture thermal, visual and equipment data directly into digital asset records.

The MentorLens app is now available worldwide on FLIR’s professional iXX-Series thermal imaging cameras.

The integration is designed to remove several manual steps from condition monitoring by allowing technicians to photograph equipment, capture thermal imagery and record nameplate information using the same device.

Data can then be sent directly to the relevant asset record rather than being transferred from a camera to a computer and manually matched with maintenance information.

Thermal asset monitoring moves into field workflow

Running directly on the FLIR iXX-Series, MentorLens retains the camera’s thermal data while allowing technicians to create new asset records or update existing ones from the field.

FLIR’s iXX-Series is an app-enabled thermal camera range designed to support third-party applications alongside functions including thermal imaging, visual photography and asset inspection.

The combined workflow allows a technician to capture a thermogram, condition photograph and equipment nameplate without switching devices.

Once images are synchronised with MentorLens, the platform can transcribe tag and nameplate information into asset attributes and analyse thermal readings against equipment operating baselines.

Previous assessments for the same asset can also be included, allowing changes in condition to be tracked between inspections rather than assessed from an individual image alone.

Asset records can link inspection and maintenance data

The integration is intended to connect thermal asset monitoring more closely with wider maintenance planning.

Condition and thermal results can be stored alongside an asset’s work history and other operational information within MentorAPM. Platform rules can also be configured to generate preventive work orders following inspection findings.

Reports can be exported as standardised PDFs, while application programming interfaces allow underlying information to be transferred into existing computerised maintenance management or enterprise asset management systems.

According to the companies, AI-assisted processes remain subject to human review before findings are committed to the asset record.

John Gould, Sr. Director of Strategic Business Development, FLIR, said: “Customers don’t need more inspection data. They need actionable information that helps them prevent downtime and make better maintenance decisions. With MentorAPM integrated into the iXX-Series workflow, thermal findings become part of a broader asset health picture. Data is automatically evaluated against previous conditions and delivered to the teams responsible for maintenance planning, enabling earlier intervention and more effective predictive maintenance programs.”

Technology first tested in water and wastewater utilities

MentorAPM says the combined approach was first proven in water and wastewater utilities before being adopted in other asset-intensive sectors including manufacturing, metals, and oil and gas.

The company develops asset and work management software for water and wastewater utilities, covering treatment plants, networks and associated infrastructure.

For utilities, condition monitoring can help maintenance teams identify deteriorating electrical and mechanical equipment before faults develop into service interruptions or more costly failures.

MentorAPM reports that customers using MentorLens have achieved field data collection up to ten times faster and cost savings exceeding 75% compared with conventional condition-assessment methods. These figures are company-reported and will vary according to application and existing inspection processes.

Tacoma Zach, CEO of MentorAPM, said: “For most operators the hardest part of asset management is still the most basic one, which is knowing what you own and what condition it is in. Putting our app on the iXX-Series means high-quality thermal data now enters that picture at the point of capture, from the same technician and the same device. In plants where downtime is measured in millions of dollars an hour, the payback on that is very quick.”

Integration to be demonstrated at SMRP conference

FLIR and MentorAPM will present the integration at the 2026 Society for Maintenance & Reliability Professionals Annual Conference, taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina, from 28 September to 1 October.

The MentorLens app is available worldwide for FLIR iXX-Series users with a MentorAPM subscription.
