New Jersey American Water will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Tuesday 27 October 2026 to celebrate the completion of its PFAS treatment installation project at the Salem Water Treatment Plant in Salem, New Jersey. The event will bring together company leaders, state utility regulators and elected officials at the site to recognise the Salem PFAS treatment project.

Salem PFAS treatment project completed

The utility announced the ceremony in a media advisory issued on 23 October. It described the scheme as an important water quality improvement project for the Salem community. The company said the speeches would highlight the partnership and investment that made the project possible.

The advisory does not give the cost of the installation, the treatment technology used or the capacity of the plant. PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a large group of synthetic chemicals known for persisting in the environment. Treatment to remove them from drinking water supplies has become an increasing focus for water utilities.

Regulators and elected officials to speak

The speaking programme will feature Mark McDonough, President of New Jersey American Water, and Salem City Mayor Jody Veler. Commissioners Michael Bange and Joseph Coviello of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, the state’s utility regulator, will also give remarks.

They will be joined by Assemblyman Dave Bailey, who represents Legislative District 3 in the New Jersey Legislature. The list of speakers brings together the utility, its state regulator and the local community the plant serves.

Ceremony programme and site tour

The event will be held in the car park of the treatment facility at 520 Grieves Parkway, Salem. Media have been encouraged to arrive by 10:45. The programme runs as follows:

  • 10:45 to 11:00: light refreshments
  • 11:00 to 11:40: welcome and remarks
  • 11:40 to 11:55: ribbon cutting and photographs
  • 11:55 to 12:15: optional facility tour

Following the speeches, invited guests will take part in the ribbon cutting alongside company, government and community representatives. The optional tour of the facility after the ceremony will be open to elected officials. Television crews, photographers and reporters have been invited to attend.
