MFG Chemical has acquired AP Tech, a specialist in solid chemistry solutions for industrial water treatment.

The acquisition adds AP Tech’s solid water treatment chemistry portfolio to MFG Chemical’s expanding Water Technologies division, which already includes Radical Polymers and Masters Company.

MFG Chemical is a portfolio company of Windjammer Capital. The company said the deal strengthens its position as a supplier of proprietary water treatment products for service companies across industrial markets.

Solid chemistry for water treatment

AP Tech is headquartered in West Chester, Ohio, and was founded in 1999 by Jim Heimert.

The company is known for solid chemistry technologies used in industrial water treatment, including applications for cooling towers, boiler and steam generation systems, and closed-loop systems.

Solid chemistry is used as an alternative to traditional liquid chemical products. Instead of transporting large volumes of water-based liquid chemicals, concentrated products are supplied in solid forms such as tablets, discs or blocks, which dissolve on site using dedicated feed systems.

For industrial users, this approach can reduce spill risk, improve handling safety, reduce packaging waste and support more efficient chemical logistics.

AP Tech joins MFG’s water technologies portfolio

The acquisition follows MFG Chemical’s earlier acquisitions of Radical Polymers and Masters Company. Together, the businesses give MFG a broader portfolio across liquid and solid water treatment chemistry.

AP Tech serves water treatment service companies that support facilities including industrial plants, commercial buildings, healthcare sites, education campuses, data centres and other critical infrastructure.

“The AP Tech team is thrilled to be a part of MFG Chemical,” said Katie Lee, CEO of AP Tech.

“Together, we now offer customers one of the industry’s most comprehensive portfolios of both liquid and solid water treatment solutions. This expanded capability enables us to deliver the best-fit chemistry for each unique application.”

Growth strategy for industrial water treatment

MFG Chemical said AP Tech’s addition supports its wider growth strategy in specialty chemicals and water treatment.

The company is headquartered in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and operates seven manufacturing and research facilities in North America. Its markets include water treatment additives, paints and coatings additives, pulp and paper, mining, personal care and energy.

“AP Tech is a highly regarded innovator in solid chemistry for industrial water treatment,” said Paul Turgeon, CEO of MFG Chemical.

“We are excited about working with the AP Tech team of experts, offering solid and liquid water treatment chemicals, along with the many unique capabilities of MFG Water Technologies.”

Turgeon added that MFG Chemical would continue to pursue strategic acquisitions that expand its technology portfolio and strengthen its position as a supplier to water treatment service companies.
