FIDO Tech has appointed Dr Piers Clark as a non-executive director, adding senior water-sector, investment and innovation experience to its board.

The Oxford-based company develops FIDO AI, an artificial intelligence platform used to analyse acoustic pipeline data, detect leaks and rank them by size.

FIDO said the appointment comes as it continues to expand internationally. The company works with utilities and businesses seeking to reduce non-revenue water, prioritise repairs and improve network performance.

FIDO Tech adds water-sector experience

Dr Clark is the founder and former chairman of Isle Utilities, a consultancy focused on water innovation, technology adoption and environmental transition.

He also helped develop Isle’s Technology Approval Group, known as TAG, which connects water utilities and technology companies to assess and adopt new solutions.

His previous roles include commercial director at Thames Water and senior positions across water, infrastructure and investment.

Board appointment supports AI leak detection growth

FIDO Tech chief executive Mitch Donnelly said Clark’s sector experience would support the company’s next phase of growth.

I am delighted that Piers has agreed to join the board of FIDO Tech, he is one of the industry’s most well known thought leaders with extensive connections and experience across the global water sector. His contribution to FIDO’s strategic leadership will be invaluable as we continue our growth journey.

The company said Clark’s background in utility operations, investment and technology commercialisation would help support wider deployment of AI-led leak detection.

Leakage remains a priority for utilities

Water loss remains one of the sector’s most persistent operational challenges. Utilities are under pressure to improve leakage performance, reduce repair backlogs and make better use of network data.

FIDO AI is designed to help operators identify leaks from acoustic data and prioritise repairs by estimated leak size. The company says this allows teams to focus resources on the largest water losses first.

FIDO has developed a genuinely transformational technology that is helping utilities tackle one of the water sector’s biggest challenges: water loss. The combination of advanced AI and acoustic data is delivering measurable results for customers around the world. I’m excited to join the board and support the team as they scale their impact and continue their impressive growth trajectory.
