Hull City Council has renewed its partnership with Business Stream in a five-year contract covering water and wastewater services across 322 sites. The agreement, valued at more than £6 million, continues a long-term collaboration between the two organisations.
Business Stream, one of the UK’s largest water retailers, works with over 300,000 business and public sector customers. As part of the new contract, the retailer will install Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) devices at council sites with high consumption or difficult meter access. These devices will provide real-time visibility of water use, helping to identify irregularities, leaks and areas where efficiency improvements can be made.
Tom Abel, Director of Sales at Business Stream, said:
“We’re delighted to be continuing our relationship with Hull City Council, working together to manage their water use more efficiently and generating cost savings that can be reinvested in other areas.”
The company will also support the council with portfolio data cleansing and ongoing data maintenance, helping ensure accurate billing and improved oversight of water use across the estate.
Gavin Atkinson, Energy & Sustainability Manager at Hull City Council, said:
“As a public body, it’s essential we demonstrate value for money in all our service contracts. Our renewed agreement with Business Stream supports this goal, helping us manage water usage more effectively, maintain accurate billing, and identify areas where savings can be made across our estate.”
The partnership is expected to deliver significant annual savings over the duration of the contract through improved monitoring, leak detection and water management measures.
