Barhale secures three AMP8 growth schemes after being appointed by Thames Water to deliver infrastructure projects supporting new development and network resilience in Brent Cross, Basingstoke and Benson.

The projects have been awarded under Thames Water’s £200m+ AMP8 Major Projects framework for Developer Services and Infrastructure Programmes. The framework supports infrastructure required to meet third-party development demand, including diversions, requisitions and lateral drains.

Barhale secures three AMP8 growth schemes to support housing and resilience

At Rushgrove Park in Brent Cross, adjacent to the Peel Centre, Barhale will design and construct a new offline foul storage attenuation system. The scheme includes diversion from the existing foul sewer, construction of a 560m³ shaft tank to provide additional storage, interception of flows from a combined sewer overflow (CSO), and a pumped return to the existing network.

The works form part of wider improvements planned by the London Borough of Barnet.

In Benson, north of Wallingford in Oxfordshire, Barhale will construct and commission a new 500m foul gravity sewer and 15 manholes. The new alignment shortens the route of the existing network and is intended to improve operational resilience while supporting new housing development.

At South Basingstoke in Hampshire, the company will construct a new 590m sewer at Winchester Road and upgrade 484m of existing sewer at Kempshott Lane, alongside manhole improvements. The works are designed to increase network capacity and accommodate connections from planned housing developments.

Design services for the projects are being delivered by Barhale’s specialist design arm, ESL.

Florin Edu, Contract Manager at Barhale, said the schemes are intended to meet growth requirements while strengthening network resilience.

The projects sit within AMP8 investment planning, where water companies are under increasing pressure to deliver infrastructure that supports housing growth while maintaining environmental compliance and managing storm overflow performance.
