  • Growing demand for resilient marine infrastructure is being driven by climate pressures, ageing assets and coastal defence requirements.

Ancora Group has completed the acquisition of Red7Marine, strengthening its position within the UK’s marine infrastructure and coastal engineering sector.

The acquisition marks the first add-on investment since Ancora Group was acquired by private equity firm Sullivan Street Partners in March 2025.

Ancora Group was established to bring together specialist marine contractors operating across marine civils, erosion protection and marine plant services. The business delivers infrastructure projects across ports, waterways and tidal coastal environments throughout the UK.

Red7Marine Adds Specialist Marine Engineering Expertise

Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Ipswich, Suffolk, Red7Marine provides marine engineering services across marine civils, flood defence, offshore renewable energy, subsea cable projects and nuclear infrastructure.

The company operates an in-house engineering and fabrication capability alongside a fleet of specialist jack-up barges and marine plant used on complex marine construction projects.

The acquisition strengthens Ancora Group’s self-delivery capabilities and expands its operational reach, particularly through Red7Marine’s specialist vessel fleet and established presence on the south coast.

Growing Demand for Resilient Marine Infrastructure

The transaction reflects increasing investment in marine infrastructure, coastal resilience and flood defence projects as asset owners respond to ageing infrastructure and climate-related pressures.

Marine contractors are playing a growing role in delivering infrastructure upgrades designed to protect coastal communities, maintain critical transport links and support offshore energy development.

According to Sullivan Street Partners, the acquisition supports its strategy of building a nationwide network of specialist marine contractors capable of delivering complex infrastructure projects through integrated engineering and operational expertise.

Ancora Group Targets Long-Term Growth

Layton Tamberlin, Managing Partner at Sullivan Street Partners, said the acquisition represents another step towards building a national marine contracting group with specialist capabilities.

Simon Light, CEO of Ancora Group, said the combined businesses bring more than 100 years of marine engineering and marine plant experience across coastal, inland and offshore environments.

The enlarged group is expected to support projects across marine infrastructure, coastal defence, offshore energy, waterways and environmental protection sectors.
