Yorkshire Water has partnered with Kier and Stantec to design and install a state-of-the-art Magnetic Ion Exchange (MIEX) plant at the Sladen Valley water treatment works near Haworth. This £16m water network improvements investment is the latest in a series of multimillion-pound upgrades to Keighley’s water supply network.
The Keighley catchment area naturally flows through peatland and moorland, resulting in water with high colour levels. The MIEX plant is designed to remove this additional colour and maintain the high standard of drinking water that Yorkshire Water is known for.
Neil Whitehead, Asset Planning Sponsor at Yorkshire Water, said “This is a fantastic upgrade to one of our key water treatment works and another significant investment in Keighley’s water network.” Yorkshire Water is also exploring additional investment options, including an environmental impact assessment for potential upgrade works at Oldfield water treatment works.
