Wave has launched Water Efficiency Services (WES), a new neutral sub-brand designed to help wholesalers, retailers and third-party intermediaries deliver practical water-saving programmes across the UK.

The new brand expands Wave’s water efficiency expertise beyond the non-household retail market, providing specialist support to organisations seeking to reduce water consumption, improve resilience and meet increasingly ambitious regulatory targets.

The launch comes as the UK faces growing pressure on water resources, with forecasts suggesting an additional five billion litres of water per day will be needed by 2055.

Supporting ambitious water efficiency targets

Government targets require water companies to reduce leakage by 30% by March 2032 while cutting non-household water consumption by 9% by 2038. Achieving these objectives will require greater collaboration across retailers, wholesalers and delivery partners.

Water Efficiency Services has been created to act as a neutral delivery partner, helping organisations engage customers and implement programmes that deliver measurable water savings.

Its services include leakage support, on-site water efficiency audits, data collection and bespoke water-saving initiatives designed for both household and business customers.

Big Blue Eco Booster expands nationwide

One of the first initiatives to be delivered through WES will be the Big Blue Eco Booster programme.

Originally launched by Wave in partnership with SaveMoneyCutCarbon and Northumbrian Water during 2025, the initiative has already secured support from five additional wholesalers and has helped 169 schools identify hidden leaks, inefficient fittings and excessive water consumption.

Following the launch of WES, the programme can now be delivered to schools supplied by other water retailers, significantly expanding its potential impact across the UK.

Helping organisations reduce water waste

Oli Shelley, Director of Water Efficiency Services, said the UK would require greater collaboration to address future water scarcity.

“Water scarcity is a real challenge for the UK, and to reach the ambitious targets in place to reduce water wastage and usage, there needs to be more support in place. It requires organisations to engage customers, identify opportunities for improvement and deliver meaningful change on the ground.”

He added that Water Efficiency Services had been established to provide organisations with practical programmes that reduce waste, save water and improve long-term resilience while operating as a neutral partner across the sector.

Building on Wave’s existing expertise

Wave currently supports business customers across England’s competitive water retail market through its Active Water Management services.

The introduction of Water Efficiency Services broadens that capability, allowing the organisation to work with wholesalers, retailers and third-party organisations across the wider water sector.
