Water scarcity is recognised as one of the most significant environmental risks facing global supply chains, ecosystems and communities. A new whitepaper from Tunley Environmental, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Water, aims to help organisations understand the complexities of water footprinting and how their operations interact with local and global water resources.

Authored by Senior Sustainability Scientist and Carbon Co-Lead Dr Gareth Davies, the whitepaper breaks down technical water terminology into clear, practical insights. It explains how different types of water—green, blue, grey and white—each contribute to an organisation’s total water footprint, and why recognising these distinctions is essential for accurate reporting and effective management.

The publication draws on internationally recognised frameworks, including ISO 14046 and the Water Footprint Assessment Manual, to explore the full cycle of water use. It highlights the importance of understanding environmental flow requirements to help prevent regional water stress.

Dr Gareth Davies said, “Our increasing water use in a changing climate is an upcoming crisis we need to address today. It is my hope that through education we can help companies to meaningfully mitigate against this risk.”

With visual explanations and user-friendly guidance, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Water supports sustainability professionals in decoding complex water metrics and aligning with best practice in environmental management.
