Yorkshire Water is leading a groundbreaking initiative called Designer Liner, which has received £3.3m in funding from Ofwat’s Innovation Fund. As one of 16 solutions awarded a share of £40m in the Water Breakthrough Challenge competition, Designer Liner aims to develop a lining solution that will significantly reduce leaks and burst water pipes across the country. By adding an extra layer of protection, lining water pipes is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to reduce disruptions for customers by avoiding the need for road digging.

How this fund supports challenges facing the water industry

The Water Breakthrough Challenge supports initiatives focused on solving the biggest challenges facing the water industry including reducing leakage and achieving net-zero carbon emissions. The funding from Ofwat enables Yorkshire Water to lead this initiative and collaborate with water companies nationwide to create a much-needed lining solution that benefits customers, the environment, and the industry.
