South East Water becomes sole European blender of powdered SeaQuest

South East Water (SEW) has secured a new contract with AquaSmart, making the company the sole European blending facility for the powdered version of SeaQuest — a plant-based water treatment product designed to maintain clear, high-quality drinking water.

Under the new agreement, SEW will import powdered SeaQuest from Atlanta, USA, to be blended at its Barcombe Mills Water Treatment Works in East Sussex. The product, which helps prevent discolouration and mineral build-up in pipes, ensures that water remains clean and clear while maintaining orthophosphate and polyphosphate equilibrium without forming scale inside distribution systems.

Previously, South East Water transported liquid SeaQuest from Atlanta, using approximately 180,000 litres annually. The transition to a powdered blend, mixed on-site using newly installed equipment, enables the company to increase operational efficiency and resilience while reducing transport-related carbon emissions.

The blended product will be used in South East Water’s own drinking water network and supplied to AquaSmart customers across the UK and Europe.

“We are delighted to have signed this new agreement with AquaSmart to be the sole European blending facility for the powdered form of SeaQuest. This will ensure a more resilient supply chain for South East Water as we can store a plentiful supply of the blended product on our site.”

AquaSmart Vice President of Sales and General Manager Dave Linville added: “Everyone deserves clean water. SeaQuest improves drinking water quality using reduced carbon and fewer chemicals than other methods. Now, with local blending, the carbon footprint of SeaQuest is reduced even further for UK and EU customers.”

The partnership marks another step forward in sustainable water treatment, combining advanced chemistry and localised production to improve environmental performance and ensure continued delivery of safe, high-quality drinking water.
