Solenis opens new Global Research Center in Delaware

Solenis executives and guests cut the ribbon at the company’s new Global Research Center in Wilmington, Delaware.

Solenis, a global leader in water and hygiene solutions, has opened its new Global Research Center near its headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware (USA). The 100,000-square-foot facility features advanced laboratories, collaborative workspaces, and pilot-scale testing capabilities to accelerate the development of sustainability-focused products and technologies.

Located within the Chestnut Run Innovation and Science Park (CRISP), the new centre will serve as the flagship hub in Solenis’ global R&D network, which includes more than 500 scientists, engineers, and technical experts worldwide. Over 160 of these professionals are based in Wilmington, specialising in water treatment and pulp and paper manufacturing.

The facility adds 20,000 square feet of laboratory space compared to the company’s previous Wilmington R&D site. Designed to encourage cross-functional collaboration, the laboratories and open-plan environments support Solenis’ growing pipeline of research initiatives that deliver sustainable solutions for customers across industries.

“We’re proud to open the doors to our new Global Research Center. This investment reflects our dedication to scientific excellence, our growth within the Delaware community, and our belief that innovation is the key to solving our customers’ most complex sustainability challenges.”
Christoph Adami, Vice President, Innovation, Solenis

Chief Executive Officer John Panichella added: “This new global centre deepens our technical capabilities and strengthens our ability to attract top talent and deliver differentiated solutions to the market. It’s a major milestone in our journey to become a force for sustainable change.”

Dr. Lotta Kanto Öqvist, Chief Sustainability Officer, said that over 75% of Solenis’ R&D work is now dedicated to water, hygiene and sustainability. “From tackling water stress and enhancing health and well-being to driving innovation in recycling and food safety, these solutions address the world’s most pressing sustainability and health challenges.”

The grand opening featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by company leadership, Delaware Governor Matt Meyer, and local officials and partners. Guests toured the new laboratories and viewed demonstrations of current research projects.

Solenis now operates 12 R&D centres globally, with several designated as Centres of Excellence. The company also runs nine Customer Application Laboratories (CALs) that support customers in solving complex real-world chemistry and water management challenges.
