Joins Existing Ocean Exchange Orcelle® Award and Award for Oceans and Coastal Systems

The Ocean Exchange, a leader in supporting the acceleration of innovative solutions for healthy oceans and the sustainable blue economy, announces the expansion of its robust awards program with unveiling of the 2022 Ocean Exchange Transportation Hub Innovation Award of $100,000 USD.

Like the existing Orcelle® and Neptune Awards, each of which also carries $100,000 USD in prize money, the new award will be presented at Ocean Exchange’s annual event, which will take place on October 23-25 in Fort Lauderdale.

Ocean Exchange Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director Millicent Pitts made the announcement while speaking today at IGNITE22 Global Tech Showcase. Organized by Braid Theory at the Port of Los Angeles at Alta Sea facility, IGNITE22 focuses on facilitating connections among deep tech entrepreneurs and other sustainable blue and green economy stakeholders in Southern California and beyond. This year’s event, for which Ocean Exchange is a partner organization, drew an estimated 400 participants including the 2021 Orcelle Award winner, Element Resources.

“We are delighted to announce this exciting new award, which illustrates the holistic approach we must take to ensure the future of our oceans and the Blue Economy. The Ocean Exchange Innovation Award for Transportation and Logistics Hubs will be given to the solution that best advances ocean, inland and airports and other logistics hubs. We are seeking innovations that make ports and hubs more sustainable with technologies that support clean water and air; the conservation of precious natural resources near ports and hubs; efficient road, rail and warehousing supporting the ports; and state-of-the-art sustainable port and hub land management,” said Pitts.

She added, “Ocean Exchange also welcomes our newest sponsors, Oceankind and the Schmidt Marine Technology Partners, and is grateful for their support. Our mission is funded largely by private donations including those from Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Royal Caribbean, Oceaneering, Marine Research Hub of South Florida, Angus Littlejohn, Jr. Family, and others who share the passion for healthy oceans.”  The full list of sponsors can be found at https://www.oceanexchange.org/about/sponsors/

Nominations for the Ocean Exchange Awards will be open mid-May. The deadline for registering for all three Ocean Exchange awards is 11:59pm GMT on Monday, August 29, 2022. Finalists will be selected by Ocean Exchange’s Solutions Review Team and will present at the Ocean Exchange event in Fort Lauderdale. Delegates representing business, academia, government, and non-profits will select the three monetary winners at the event. For more information, visit www.oceanexchange.org/.
