Water Scarcity with a growing population
In your opinion, what is the biggest threat to our global water supply?

The greatest threat to our global water supply is the combination of population growth and climate change. As demand for water rises, resources are simultaneously shrinking due to prolonged droughts, aquifer depletion and shifting weather patterns. This growing imbalance is placing unsustainable pressure on existing infrastructure, particularly in regions already facing water stress.

What are some innovative solutions you have seen to combat water scarcity in a growing population?

Innovative solutions like advanced desalination, wastewater reuse, and digital water management are critical in tackling water scarcity for a growing population. Today’s desalination plants are far more energy-efficient, helping reduce both carbon footprints and operational costs. Technologies such as advanced membrane filtration, higher recovery rates, chemical self-sufficiency, and real-time monitoring are transforming how companies like IDE design and operate water facilities. AI-based predictive systems further optimize operations and resource use. Together, these innovations expand access to clean water while ensuring it’s done sustainably and responsibly, securing water resources for communities, industries, and the environment alike.

How does your company prioritise and promote sustainable water usage practices?

Sustainability is at the core of IDE’s engineering philosophy and business model. We design systems that maximize efficiency, from advanced energy recovery to zero-liquid discharge solutions. Internally, we invest heavily in R&D to drive long-term resilience and innovation. Externally, we partner with communities, academia, governments, and industries to develop smart, scalable water strategies. We also prioritize education, transparency, and continuous performance optimization to ensure our solutions stay efficient and sustainable over time. Together, this approach helps us promote responsible water use while meeting the needs of growing populations and protecting the environment. Ultimately, we see ourselves not just as water suppliers but as long-term water partners in securing a sustainable water future.
