Alfreton, UK. Envirogen Group has executed its multi-million-pound wastewater treatment contract for Align JV, the joint venture that is delivering the Central 1 (C1) portion of HS2 Phase One. Envirogen has installed its pre-filtration, ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis technologies, and advanced oxidative treatment to ensure that wastewater from Align’s main site, close to junction 17, M25, meets the highest possible environmental standards.

Align JV comprises three international and privately-owned infrastructure companies – Bouygues Travaux Publics, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick, a subsidiary of VolkerWessels.

Included in the contract is continuous service support and the ability to remotely monitor the performance of the equipment. The company’s “plug and play” approach with its containerised, semi-permanent solution enabled the system’s rapid deployment.

Envirogen managed the project from inception through fabrication, delivery and commissioning, followed now by support for the operational lifecycle through a combination of remote monitoring and presence on site.

John Jepson, European Commercial Director, Envirogen Group, says, “We teamed up well with Align JV on the HS2 project and are employing our latest high-end water treatment technologies to support Align’s commitment to high environmental standards. We worked closely together to develop the process design and design a treatment system that demonstrates Envirogen’s approach to providing the most cost-effective solution to the question of how best to treat wastewater.”

Jepson continues, “HS2 puts its environmental responsibility at the heart of the construction process. By providing the highest quality water treatment to construction process/runoff water, Envirogen will significantly contribute to that commitment.

“In just six months, Envirogen went from contract signing to treating 250m3/hr of water per hour, demonstrating our speed of deployment and volume. We are confident that as we continue to supply our services, technological innovations and solutions, we will significantly contribute to the successful delivery of the HS2 project.”
