Digital water treatment
  • Usalco has launched a new Digital Solutions Division to expand its digital water treatment capabilities and accelerate adoption of its Decision Blue® platform.
  • The company has appointed Chris Miller, PhD, PE, as Interim Chief Digital Officer and Vice President of Digital Innovation.
  • Decision Blue® combines water treatment chemistry, operational expertise and digital tools designed to support treatment decision-making.
  • Recent additions include Corrosion Sentry™ and Virtual Jar®, which provide digital monitoring and treatment optimisation support.
  • Usalco says the investment reflects growing demand for AI-enabled tools that help operators manage increasingly complex water treatment operations.

Usalco Digital Solutions Division has been launched as part of the company’s strategy to expand digital water treatment technologies and accelerate the adoption of its Decision Blue® treatment intelligence platform.

The company announced that Chris Miller, PhD, PE, will serve as Interim Chief Digital Officer and Vice President of Digital Innovation as Usalco continues to invest in digital services, artificial intelligence and operational decision-support technologies for water treatment operators.

According to Usalco, water utilities and industrial operators are facing increasing challenges associated with changing water quality conditions, evolving regulations and growing operational complexity.

Decision Blue platform supports treatment decision-making

Central to the company’s digital strategy is Decision Blue®, a platform designed to support water treatment decision-making through the integration of treatment chemistry, operational expertise and digital services.

The system is intended to help operators evaluate treatment options, improve consistency and support more informed operational decisions across treatment processes.

Usalco says the platform is designed to provide decision support rather than replace operator expertise, using a human-in-the-loop approach that combines data-driven recommendations with operational judgement.

Expansion follows addition of corrosion control technologies

The company recently expanded its capabilities through the acquisition of Shannon Chemical, adding corrosion-control technologies to its portfolio.

According to Usalco, these capabilities integrate with its Corrosion Sentry™ monitoring platform, providing real-time monitoring alongside chemical treatment programmes.

The company’s Virtual Jar® technology also forms part of the broader Decision Blue platform, helping operators assess treatment dosage scenarios and potential process outcomes before implementing changes.

Why digital water treatment tools are gaining importance

Digital technologies are playing an increasingly important role in water treatment operations as utilities seek to improve performance, reduce operational risks and respond more effectively to changing source water conditions.

Advances in artificial intelligence, predictive analytics and real-time monitoring are enabling operators to access greater operational insight while supporting compliance and treatment optimisation objectives.

Future growth plans

Usalco said the Digital Solutions Division will bring together digital services, technical expertise and customer support functions under a unified structure.

The company is also expanding recruitment across product development, engineering, data and commercial enablement roles as part of its long-term digital growth strategy.

Ken Gayer, Chief Executive Officer of Usalco, said the investment reflects growing customer demand for technologies that support increasingly complex treatment requirements.
