Ambienta SGR SpA (“Ambienta”), one of Europe’s leading and largest asset managers entirely focused on environmental sustainability, is pleased to announce that its platform company Wateralia, has acquired Calpeda Pumpen, an established distributor of water pumps in Germany. The Wateralia platform is a leading global player with c. €300m in revenues, over 1000 employees across five manufacturing plants and 25 subsidiaries serving clients in over 140 countries, active in the design, engineering and manufacturing of water pumps for the integrated water cycle.

Located in Alzenau (Frankfurt), Calpeda Pumpen can count on 25+ years of experience in distribution and after sales service management of water pumps. The company has rapidly gained a foothold in the German market thanks to its focus on delivering high-quality solutions to meet the diverse needs of its clients. Today, Calpeda Pumpen has become a trusted name in the industry, recognized for its technical expertise, customer-centric approach, and comprehensive product range, serving over 1000 clients.

Water scarcity is one of the largest issues the world is facing today – affecting food supplies, health and economic prosperity with a direct impact on the natural environment and climate. With the increasing need for efficient water supply and distribution for both civil and industrial daily use, the water management industry is strongly affected by long-term sustainability trends and has clear growth potential in both developed and emerging markets. This acquisition further consolidates the strength of the Wateralia platform as a leader in promoting sustainable growth in the water industry.

Calpeda Pumpen is the fourth acquisition carried out by Ambienta as part of its buy-and-build platform strategy in the water pumps sector. Ambienta first acquired Caprari in February 2021, already recognizing the water management sector’s potential for growth and its critical contribution to the issue of water scarcity. In July 2022 Ambienta completed the transformational acquisition of Calpeda, leading designer and manufacturer of water pumps for the integrated water cycle, rebranding the combined group as Wateralia. In March 2023 Ambienta acquired Linea Ricambi and Bergomi Trading, combined under the name Caprari Trading, established distributors of spare parts and pumps in the water sector. With the acquisition of Calpeda Pumpen, Wateralia reinforces its presence in Germany, strengthening its distribution network and premium technical customer support.

The combined group, further bolstered by these synergies, remains on track to become one of the largest independent European players in the water pumps and pumping systems industry for the integrated water cycle.

Federico De Angelis, Group CEO of Wateralia, commented: “I am delighted to welcome on board Calpeda Pumpen. Their recognized excellence in technical service and customer focus perfectly aligns with our values and long-term strategy. This acquisition is highly synergetic and will significantly strengthen our presence in Germany, a key market for the water management industry. Our fundamental mission is to provide people with water without wasting resources: the partnership with Ambienta has been instrumental in identifying and engaging with potential buy-and-build targets, enabling us to achieve this mission on an ever-expanding scale”.

Bernhard Vath, Founder of Calpeda Pumpen, added: “Having collaborated with Calpeda for nearly three decades, we are delighted to merge our efforts to advance the growth trajectory of both companies. The partnership with Ambienta and Wateralia has been pivotal throughout the process to truly bring forward our synergies. We are proud to officially join Wateralia and we look forward to continuing delivering premium service levels and technical solutions, always being committed to our customers.”

Mauro Roversi, Founding Partner and Private Equity CIO at Ambienta, commented: “The acquisition of Calpeda Pumpen, with its strong presence in Germany, reinforces Wateralia’s international reach consolidating its positioning in Germany and solidifies Ambienta’s international growth journey. The investment is fully aligned with our long-term vision for the group and as a strategic move not only supports our expansion and consolidation efforts in the sector, but also marks Wateralia’s initial step towards international growth through M&A.”
