vermicon AG, a pioneer in wastewater microbiology, is presenting a groundbreaking portfolio of innovative products and services for microbiological wastewater monitoring at IFAT 2024. With over 25 years of experience in analysing wastewater biocenoses, the company is setting new standards and focusing on holistic analysis.

Microbiological wastewater monitoring plays a decisive role in two key areas – the optimisation of biological wastewater treatment and wastewater surveillance for public health management. vermicon AG serves both areas with a powerful portfolio and a network of leading partners in the fields of process engineering, sewer monitoring and high-throughput laboratories.

The VIT® gene probe technology, on which vermicon AG’s standardised laboratory analysis and VIT® test kits are based, is the only method that enables the identification, visualisation and quantification of living microorganisms directly in the wastewater sample. Only with VIT® microbiological wastewater monitoring and thus microorganism-oriented monitoring of the processes in the plant is possible.

With the help of its technology portfolio, the company is able to cover the entire value chain of wastewater monitoring using laboratory analyses and test kits that can be applied on-site. While the discharge of wastewater is tested for viruses such as SARS-CoV-2, influenza A+B or RSV, all essential biological sub-areas such as nitrification, filamentous bacteria growth which causes sludge bulking and foaming and biological phosphate elimination can be analysed, tracked and tested for efficiency during the actual wastewater treatment process. When the purified wastewater is discharged into the receiving water, it is checked for pathogenic microorganisms.

Although the individual processes can also be analysed separately, in the VIT® SafeGuard early warning system they are incorporated into a holistic approach. Here, the microbiological and process engineering parameters are combined through the exclusive collaboration of microbiologists and process engineers.

VIT® Vision, a software package specially tailored to the needs of wastewater treatment plants, forms the centerpiece of the entire analysis. Powerful dashboards and automatic evaluations facilitate and complete the comprehensive monitoring of the wastewater treatment plant’s microbiology and enable maximum process optimisation and operational reliability.

“Microbiological wastewater monitoring has a name – vermicon AG,” says Dr Jiri Snaidr, microbiologist and CEO of vermicon AG. “Our decades of expertise, combined with pioneering technologies and strong partnerships, are redefining the future of microbiological wastewater monitoring.”

The company will be presenting its powerful portfolio for holistic microbiological monitoring at IFAT 2024, in Hall C1, Stand 216.
