In this episode of AMS Talks, Rick Bacon, CEO of AMS, speaks with Joshua Webster, water treatment operator for California American Water about demonstrating the SafeGuard™ H2O arsenic removal technology at the Isleton Water System.
SafeGuard™ H2O is an innovative arsenic treatment approach developed by AMS that generates a ferrous ion reagent in-situ via an electrolytic process to address arsenic contamination effectively and economically. The electrolytic ferrous ion generation process does not require special complex infrastructure or safety protocols as compared to bulk chemicals; and the approach is non-hazardous and environmentally sustainable.
Watch this insightful interview for more details on the demonstration and lessons learned.
The demonstration at Isleton showed the effectiveness of SafeGuard™ H2O to mitigate total arsenic contamination in drinking water below 10 ppb, and its ability to deliver an affordable and reliable fully automated treatment process that does not require the use of bulk chemicals like conventional treatment approaches (e.g., coagulation/filtration).
At 3 gpm, this was a small-scale demonstration compared to the wells at Isleton. However, 3 gpm equates to 4,000 gpd, which translates to a full-scale demonstration for the hundreds of small wells found across California, Arizona and New Mexico where traditional treatment systems are far too expensive per 1,000 gallons of water treated and for whom ferric supply chain and safe handling are major challenges.
